Astrology types say I was 77-years old at birth. I believe that. I'm drawn to old things. I love history and genealogy. Cemeteries, museums, listening to old folks talk, that stuff really fascinates me. I guess I'm kind of old now too and I don't know if I fascinate anyone, but that's why I'm here. I've done years of work on a family tree and for what? To leave the names and accomplishments of long-dead ancestors for my descendants? I hope they appreciate that, but it might be cool if they know a little bit about who I was. So, before it's too late, I decided to start telling some of the thousands of stories from my own life. You see, I'm not necessarily great at any one thing, but I do have a natural gift. I have one kick ass memory. Not for important things like where my keys are when I need them or why I just walked into a room. I remember way back into the way back days, and I remember minutia that nobody should be saving valuable brain space for. Guess what? I do. The way I see it, as long as it's there, I may as well use it for something. Not only that, there's more. I'm what you might call a "regular" person, but for a good deal of my life, I spent time in the "irregular" bin. A lot of weird stuff happened to me. I mean, weird things happen to everyone, but I'm going to rationalize that at least half of the unconventional experiences that fell in my lap were entirely random and the other half I sort of welcomed in. You need to understand, I enjoy oddities. If it's offbeat, I'm suddenly completely in time. My plan here is to have no plan. My memory is great so I'll tell stories from every decade from the 1960's right until the present day. They'll include all kinds of people I've ever interacted with. Believe me, I remember people. They can be people I've known forever or they can be people I met one time. If something about them stuck with me, it could show up in one of these stories. I'm like an old house with layers and layers wallpaper. It just keeps peeling and peeling. People think they know me because really I don't give much away. Most of these stories haven't been shared before. I'm going to dig down to those last layers of wallpaper. Wherever possible, I'll include photos or video. I'll drop names sometimes. Sometimes I won't. You know, you have to protect the innocent and all that jazz. I'll try and make you laugh. I'll try and make you think. I'll hand out tests at the end of the year (no, I won't do that), maybe you'll even cry sometimes. I hate sad stuff. I'll try really hard to keep the sad things to a minimum. I don't do sadness well. I'm not even a fan of ballads and I love music. I've always loved music. I'll have a lot of stories that center around music. I'll have stories that center around EVERYTHING. Do you want to know why? It's because I manage to get mixed up in everything. Even things I don't like. I don't even know how that happens, but when it does I laugh my ass off and if I'm lucky, I have one of my equally ridiculous friends with me and they are right there laughing their ass off too. In fact, I'm thinking of a story where something like that happened right now. That story WILL pop up at some point, count on it. You know what? If I died today, I could honestly say I've had a really good life, but it would suck because I have to tell these stories. Even if the only person that ever reads them is me and my cat, we're going to have a good time. Only it would be way more fun to have all of you join us. No more typing about me now. I have to set up this site. This is the crud part. I'm not a tech person. I'm a writer. Oh, and I play SongPop. Did I mention I play SongPop? Yeah... I do that. A lot. Challenge me. I need more opponents that aren't creepy. Much Love from Inside the Fake Fireplace, Patti
