I am a late-deafened adult, having lost my hearing gradually over a period of approximately 30 years. Over that time, I adjusted by learning to lip-read. Eventually I wore hearing aids and finally I got a cochlear implant in 2001 for my left ear. Six years later I chose to have my right ear implanted with a cochlear implant from the same company, Advanced Bionics, to hear bilaterally again. The sound is great from the laughter of my grandchildren to the song of a cardinal.
