Los Angeles

Physicality has dominated my life. I grew up in a small town just outside Berkeley, CA playing ball in the street, building tree houses and tire swings in the woods, and skiing in the Sierras. I spent summers playing baseball… My writing habit began when I was 12. I started journaling and writing stories with titles like “A Dark Light in a Sea of Brightness.” I was a serious little fucker. I went to Yale, majored in history, and earned seven varsity letters playing football and baseball, including the Most Valuable Offensive Back award in 2001. I was an awful student, but a literary osmosis occurred nonetheless. By the time four years were up, I’d devoured hundreds of books. After two years in Chicago working a mind-numbing law firm job, I attended the University of San Diego School of Law just to confirm that a legal career what not for me. I took two years off in the middle of school and moved to Prague, Czech Republic where I taught English, wrote for a software company, travelled, and had the time of my life. Out of a masochistic sense of duty, I returned to San Diego to finish school. Much more significant than the degree, I came away with a love for the ocean and surfing. I love to travel. Highlights….surfing a giant swell in Dominical, Costa Rica…Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil, the most remarkable natural force I’ve ever seen…Hitching a ride from Riga, Latvia to Vilnius, Lithuania with two coked up dudes in a Trans Am blasting Grateful Dead… I’ve had many jobs: paralegal, golf ball salesman, model, SAT tutor, and two stints as a forklift driver at Schramsberg Vineyard in the Napa Valley. I love mixed martial arts, surfing, biking, hiking, and any other sport that puts me face to face with the elements. I use physicality to inform creativity—to get the most out of my body for the sake of my mind. I currently live in Los Angeles, where I teach yoga and spin and personal train. I’m currently working on a novel and a sitcom pilot. I love to write stories, poems, articles, and reviews. For me, writing is a means to arousal, flow, exploration and evolution. I have sharp senses and a terrible memory.
